My name is Gale Bass, I am a credit analyst for a local pharmaceutical company. I am a 47 year old mother of two grown children and a grandmother. I have devoted most of my life to raising my children. After my youngest graduated in 2003, I decided it was time for me to live my life for the first time.
In 2004 I met my soul mate and mentor and he rode a Harley. I was hooked. I rode on the back of his for 6 months, the whole time wanting to have my own but I kept thinking I was too old and too short to ever take on the task of learning. Then one day he left his Hog Tales on the table with a note for me to read. It had stories of all kinds of women riders. My mind was made up. I took the motorcycle class in the fall of 2004.
My first bike was a little 250, I rode it for a month then I found a 1998 Sportster at the Harley-Davidson Shop of Wytheville. I had it for 3 years but it still just wasn’t what I wanted. So in Oct 2007 I started looking again. I found my dream bike, a 2008 Dyna Low Rider. I am 5 foot tall, even a Low Rider would be a challenge…so I thought. The GREAT staff at the Harley-Davidson Shop of Wytheville customized my bike to where I could ride it the evening I picked it up. I now ride every chance I get, alone or with someone.
I encourage any and every women younger, older, shorter, taller, pleasantly plump or a little boney. If you want to ride then do it. Any bike can be customized to fit your unique size and put you in your comfort zone. The freedom, confidence, and excitement you will feel riding your own bike is something that can’t be beat! WOW! My heart pounds just thinking about it!!!!
